  • REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL SEQUENCING PROJECTS

    Deadlines for external project requests

    • The MRC UK Mouse Sequencing Consortium is no longer accepting requests for additional sequencing projects.

UK Mouse Genome Sequencing Consortium welcomes requests from UK academic researchers for additional regions to be sequenced within the programme. Sequencing is carried out exclusively on clones or contigs from the RPCI23 C57BL/6 library that has now been accepted as the standard reference library for the Mouse genome-sequencing programme. Proposals submitted are prioritised by the Scientific Advisory Committee to the UK Mouse Genome Sequencing Programme. Dependent upon available capacity in the mouse sequence pipeline, high priority proposals are entered for sequencing as soon as possible. Projects requiring less than about 0.5 MB are the given highest priority, to ensure that sequence capacity is distributed widely amongst the UK academic community.

All sequence data generated from externally requested BAC clones or contigs are released to the public database (GenBank/EBI/DDBJ) within 24 hours of assembly into contigs of 2kb or greater. This is in agreement with the principles of data release defined by the international Human Genome Project.

Proposals should at least encompass the following points:

  • A biological justification in terms of gene function or gene discovery for the target region

  • A short summary describing the genetic and physical mapping data supporting the localisation of the locus of interest to the target sequence region, including an estimate of the size of the region to be sequenced.

  • As indicated above sequencing will only be carried out on clones or contigs from the reference RPCI23 library. It will be important to demonstrate that physical map resources are in place to rapidly recover the relevant C57BL/6 clones and to construct appropriate contigs from this reference library.

  • A short statement outlining the wider scientific benefit to be gained from the proposed sequencing project

  • Clones from the RPCI23 C57BL/6 library can be obtained from HGMP Resource Centre for projects approved by the Advisory Committee.
